review 1: I would have liked to give it a star and a half. The whole time I was reading it I just wanted to be done with it, but I couldn't part with it at the same time. I would like to be able to say I wouldn't bother reading a one star book and so i gave it 2 stars because...well... I did read it. I was compelled to discover the wrong done so many years before, it wasn't worth my interest. The writing itself was stilted and messy. The characters were intriguing but in a disbelieving and pretentious way.
review 2: In an entertaining way, the book recalls some of the foundations of modern American social and political culture. I truly enjoyed the walking tour of Rome, which allowed me to re-live some wonderful personal experiences. What a treat! The characters were c... moreleverly used as vehicles who juxtapose the thinking of Vietnam era American youth culture with that of current baby boomers as they have evolved over 40 years.
