review 1: I haven't read this series in so long, that I kept buying the books and apparently never read them. But I needed to re-read this volume to remember everything before starting back up again with volume ten, and apparently I never logged reading this the first time-- so here I am! 4/5 stars for this one because I find the romance with her older brother to be mildly if not seriously disturbing. Otherwise, I remembered all the reasons I loved this series in the first place. Woo! #TeamZero
review 2: Even though Yuuki has not been a vampire for a lot of time, one would still expect her to be portrayed as a stronger character, and while I think Matsuri Hino sort of tried to show that, I don't think she really succeeded. Yes, Yuuki's weapon (Artemis) has evolved into s... moreome sort of badass scythe, but during she's not really active during her battle with Rido and Zero seems to do all the job for her. Oh yeah, let's get to Zero, now. I understand that he might be angry at Yuuki for becoming a vampire, but seriously, while she showed some sort of interest into becoming a vampire before being bitten by Kaname, it's not like she consciously made that decision. Even though she has regained her memory from her past and that changed her personality a little bit, Zero should still remember her as the girl he has grown up with, but no. He's a real asshole to her, and the book finishes with him wanting to kill her. *sighs* I kind of understand that his confusion as turned into some sort of rage, but still... Well okay, the guy ate his own brother and already had some signs of being not totally normal before, so I guess he's now totally insane. My main problem with this is how it seems so rushed and how most of the characters' reactions to the events don't seem really be consistent from one volume to the other. I liked the part in which Kaname made the vampires of the Council decapitate themselves, though. less
