review 1: Much of this book contains information that was very familiar to me. Especially the early and later chapters will be quite familiar to most Mormon readers. Maybe that is why I found chapters 5 and 6 to be my favorites. I have never before considered Mormon doctrine and practices in light of the Progressive political movement of the early 1900’s. I highly recommend this book both for LDS readers as well as anyone interested in a single short treatise on Mormon history, theology and practice.
review 2: Good summary of LDS church history from its beginning days to present. This is not the usual whitewashed version of church history that is so prevalent, but it also doesn't spend too much time digging into any one area (not that it could with the length). I can't... more say there was much I didn't know already, but the way it was presented was very non-threatening and informative and would be a good introduction to someone who wants a bit more of an objective overview of church history.
