review 1: For me, this was a book of two halves. The first part being Jerome (he's rough and tough) and Jason (sexy and clever) meeting and getting to know each other and then learning how to be together! We are given marvellous sub characters, each personality shining through, thanks to the excellent writing skills of Max Vos. Then we get to the second half. This takes us on an entirely different journey - an actual story within a story. We have family feuds reaching crisis point, family mis-understandings and lack of communications, corruption, drug deals, sexual abuse (not between Jerome and Jason, that reviewer certainly missed the point the author was making), manipulations, law enforcement and a little insight at the BDSM lifestyle, Oh my! what a combination!! Some of th... moree reviews that I read before reading the book, suggested that this side tracked from the main event of Jerome and Jason, I disagree, for me, it only enhanced it. How refreshing to see a author writing a sexy and beautiful romance but able to blend in a great sub plot so successfully. I couldn't but help feel that again this book was written from the authors own experiences, it had a very personal and descriptive feel about it, as if it was written from the heart and not from a authors vivid imagination. I may be wrong, so read the book for yourself (it's free) and see for yourself. For me, a winner and therefore 5 stars.
review 2: I started reading without really looking at the page numbers – expecting a short story. And it began like one, too. Things progressed fast, surprises popped up early on. By the time I realized it was a full story I was hooked and needed to continue.I like that Jason is not super young. Of course, Jerome is an older man, so the age gap must still be significant, but Jason is not the stereotypical “boy” and I appreciate how this relationship is portrayed – as balanced between two men in their full power. If anything, Jason has the upper hand.I don’t feel entirely comfortable with everything, of course. Jason’s sneaky way of getting Jerome to have sex with him is more than just a little lacking in respect. Rape might be a good word to throw around, too. You just don’t do these things to someone unable to make a conscious decision. It’s irrelevant who is being penetrated. The sex, well. It’s raunchy and dirty and as far removed from prettified as it can be without being revolting. I’m pretty sure it’ll hit the perfect spot for a lot of people and while it’s exactly not my cup of tea I can still appreciate that those scenes are good. As such, I’m also not into the vicious pain play present but as long as the participants enjoy it I can appreciate their pleasure. Most remarkably, there’s no extraneous sex in this book. Every scene is relevant, every irrelevant one is skipped, and there really aren’t all that many overall.Viewpoints are shifty, though. However, since they’re not too deep or emotion-laden, that’s not much of an issue. It also turns into a bit of a farce towards the end when everyone and their dog start to turn up with more Shocking Revelations. XD I liked it! At the same time I stopped taking things seriously. Strong hints of soap opera, sensationalist talk show, burlesque even. Now that I look back on it after finishing, it’s a strange switch from the serious and melancholy first half – to completely over-the-top, where even an attempt at murder is something to laugh at. Still, this is the fun kind of cliché-fest: breaking some, subverting some, relishing in others. It’s a simple, ridiculous, funny, feel-happy story with harsh elements thrown in and some brutally dirty sex. And let’s not forget the evil, twisted villain and a surprisingly easily redeemable semi-villain.I have no idea why and how but it was great fun to read. I guess it goes to show with good writing, good storytelling, and engaging characters, the rest falls by the wayside. less

This one started off strong but lost me along the way. Good free read though.

Awful, dreadful, gappy holed, disjointed waste of time. I didn't like it.
