review 1: I have to say that I really enjoyed this book. I'm not one to read a lot of sexy romance books, but I have a stack of them that my cousins gave me. I have a rule that I must read every book I own so there was really no way around reading this one. I'm glad I did though. Although I have to say that I am disappointed that Meagan Hatfield set up the audience for a sequel, but hasn't pulled through yet. It's been four years since this book came out. Other than that though I don't really have anything negative to say about the story itself. I'm also interested in reading the two novellas that Meagan Hatfield wrote that center on some of the side characters. I'll definitely pick those up sometime in the near future!

... moreDOW OF THE VAMPIRE wasn’t quite what I was expecting. I found the plot to be complex, the romance to happen at the oddest moments and lacking smooth transitions. Did I dislike SHADOW OF THE VAMPIRE? No, I would recommend this book, but with caution. I believe it just didn’t suit me correctly, not that it’s badly written. Declan Black has just taken over as Lord after his parents brutal murders by the hands of their enemies; the vampires. Their goal is now to get their hands on the crystal that has “The power to rule all or destroy one.” Although Declan manages to get the stone, he’s captured in the process and badly beaten for information. But while caged, the Vampire Princess, Alexia Feodorovna breaks down his walls in an entirely different way. Alexia is days away from taking the throne in her society where the female rules for 100 years before stepping down. But Lotharus, a man her mother (the Queen) has brought into their community is out to change that, by any means necessary. Knowing things are wrong, Alexia works with Declan to get him free, but acquiring injuries herself, Declan escapes with her. Despite accepting their love, it’s doubtful either clan would accept the other. Putting their heads together, more of the complex plan of Lotharus is figured out and Alexia leaves after a night in Declan’s arms to take back her society. Putting together a plan and his men, Declan finds Alexia near death, the result of Lotharus killing the Queen and taking both hers and Alexia’s powers. His only option to save her, for he won’t lose her, is to change her. Declan gives his blood and they seal the change by mating. The final battle against Lotharus was a nail biter as his strength and army soldiers put up an intense fight. Only after Lotharus is defeated and Alexia sees the sun for the first time does she remember the news about his parents.Back at home, Declan sends sister Tallon to see if their parents live. Meanwhile the search begins for the missing female heir to take over for Alexia. Overall, not a bad book. I enjoyed how Alexia and Declan found solace in each other despite Declan being a prisoner, but found their odd moments to make out instead of escaping to be odd. I loved that Alexia took Declan changing her well. I hate when there is animosity when they would have died otherwise. The constant POV change also took away from the story as at the start of the paragraph you would be Declan but at the end you were Alexia. less
