review 1: This story is told through Jessica Darling's diary, as she deals with her best friend moving away and the pressure of her father to be a star-athlete. Jessica is sent to the counselor one day and ends up meeting Marcus Flutie, a "dreg" boy, and the relationship that spirals through their late night talks. Students will love this book because Jessica is hyper-observant of everyone and everything, while overthinking her life. Teachers should have this book in their classroom because it is a "perfect" representation of high school.
review 2: I have two words: "Snort" and "Wince".This book, in my opinion, has the perfect balance between humor and sarcasm, and a commentary on the very real effects of depression.I suffered depression in my teen and early twenties. It... more's a dark, debilitating place to be. And it was refreshing to see a character depicted so realistically--with real problems, but also real insight.Such a fun and thoughtful read. I'm going to churn my way through the whole series. less
