review 1: Surprisingly, I found the first half of the novel more exciting than the second half. Which is great, because I was like "oh no a book about Sophos, I'm not particularly interested in him as a protagonist" but then Megan Whalen Turner started strong by hitting all of my narrative kinks so I was forced to like this. Sophos turned out to be a nice POV character, directly tying in with the events of first book with retrospective reactions about Gen.The Queen's Thief series actually reminds me a lot of Suikoden, I think it's the general aesthetic and landscape--there's myth and war and politics and great female representation.(That said, I still think that the romantic endgames should have been Gen/Sophos and Eddis/Attolia. I'm still convinced that Sophos had a thing for Gen i... moren book 1. We could have had it aaaaaall~~)
review 2: My heart is spiraling down into chaos right now. How did Megan whalen Turner do it!? This vast and complicated world was draped with suspense and intrigue that kept me up every night! I have to say, this is one of the best, if not the best, series I've read that consists of my favorite romantic relationships. The romance was subtle, but was prominent among the back-stabbing, the pain, the conspiracy, the war, the inner battles of each character, the obstacles, and the long-awaited triumphs. This was a great ending that brought me through so many feelings. Although, the book was written in a different point of view (again!), Turner manages to develop yet another character I'd fall in love with, although no so much as I am with Eugenides. His heart was pure, and he was naive, but he knew and others more so that he had potential. The POV shift also brought yet another cloak around the King and Queen of Attolia. My heart jumped every time they were mentioned, but what we were able to see were just as important as what we were not able to see. Their mysterious, yet somehow understandable love for each other made it all the more romantic. I was a bit sad that Costis was not mentioned at all in this book, but I'm happy to believe that he's doing well too. I was tempted to give this book 4 stars, because it was not as good as the 2nd and 3rd, but I had to give it 5 for the entirety of the series. I'll miss all the characters, and they'll stay with me forever. Eugenides, Irene, Helen, and Sophos.... Ugh I can't handle it! Can't wait for the next book! less

Not as good as the others. I feel like the series struggles when it strays from Eugenides.

This book needs more Costis in it.
