The Sin Eater’s Daughter
review 1: Similar to the Throne of Glass or Poison Study but not nearly on their level, this story concerns Twylla, who is fed poison so she can be the hand of Daunen Embodied and as an assassin, the justice of the queen. She kills once a month and the history of why this is so is pretty convoluted and not really believable. The characters aren't as well developed as I would have liked as the story itself starts out very promising and the worldbuilding led me to believe this would be a really cool story. Twylla is promised to the prince but she doesn't know if she can trust him or not; she thinks she is in love with her guard but doesn't know if she can trust him either. As the plot continues and we learn more about the land, it seems as if the author pulled plot points from other b... moreooks and just put them in a row and tied them together with some bits that don't add much and I wanted so much more from this. I received this as a free advanced reading copy from my local teen librarian as she knows I love these kinds of books.
review 2: I enjoyed how this book had fairy tale mixed with devious political plots. It puts that whole happily ever after into perspective. Twylla believes when she first comes to the castle that she is finally getting her happy ever after and couldn't be happier. We get to see the lies and ugliness of what her idea of a happy ending really is and get to see as Twylla discovers this too. Since this is a first in a series I am curious as to what will happen to the kingdom and how her future relationships with be. I have hope for Lief and his future in the series and I am hoping that Merek will find the strength he needs. Twylla truly has the choice to do what she will with her life, the question is now what will she do with this power and how will it effect the world around her? less
