Review of Degrees of Separation…

This trilogy was intense! I felt as if I was holding my breath half the time I read it, and that’s an understatement. Degrees of Separation is a slow burn that builds into a crescendo of weighty issues revolving around broken marriages and addiction. The story captures the intensity of addiction and how it impacts those affected, not just the users, but the entire family in general. I was weary at first about how Allyson Young and Lydia Michaels would handle working out the issues facing the characters. Alcoholism is a tricky subject to place into a romance novel, but both authors challenged it flawlessly. I was impressed by how much depth and complexity each character walked around with, even the minor characters worked their way into my heart. Degrees of Separation was a heavy read, and not one to simply whiz past in the matter of a day or two. No, this book pulls you into the moment you arrive at chapter 1 and holds your attention to the very end.
