review 1: I held off reading this book for a while after receiving it as a gift, glancing through the first few pages, and seeing a lot of references to people I'd never heard of. I reopened it this month after going through a real Harry Potter kick over the summer (copious, repeated re-readings of the canon, plus assorted selections from The Tales of Beedle the Bard) and was relieved to find out just how much of an HP geek I am NOT - the level of gushing on these pages can wet your hands as you flip through. I admire the author's willingness to own her over-the-top nerdiness, even if the descriptions of her screaming over some development or another in the books or movies were tiresome just to read. There was a lot of interesting information as long as you waded through the excess ... more(and the occasional awkward phrasings, syntactical errors and typos; I'm curious how long the author managed to cover up those issues when working at different periodicals). A fun read for anyone interested in touring the extreme side of fandom without actually getting your hands dirty.
review 2: A surprisingly funny, and touching book about the Potter phenomenon. I was on the fringes for most of this, but I did listen religiously to Pottercast near the end to hear everyone's theories. This was a fun was for me to both understand the journey that one author made from unknown to superstar, and to reflect on what the book has brought me in way of personal insight, entertainment value, and friendship/bonding! less
