Summary (from Goodreads): Lucy and Owen meet somewhere between the tenth and eleventh floors of a New York City apartment building, on an elevator rendered useless by a citywide blackout. After they’re rescued, they spend a single night together, wandering the darkened streets and marveling at the rare appearance of stars above Manhattan. But once the power is restored, so is reality. Lucy soon moves to Edinburgh with her parents, while Owen heads out west with his father.

Lucy and Owen’s relationship plays out across the globe as they stay in touch through postcards, occasional e-mails, and—finally—a reunion in the city where they first met.

A carefully charted map of a long-distance relationship, Jennifer E. Smith’s new novel shows that the center of the world isn’t necessarily a place. It can be a person, too.

Review:  Do you ever just want to read a book because you know itll be a fast, mindless, cute read? This one is perfect for that and just what I needed. I mean, you can pick this book apart and see how unrealistic it is but like I said I was reading it for the cute read. I did not really care about the details. I liked that I got see different parts of the world. It was a different kind of travel book. It was not travelling for fun but for each of the MCs parents due to their jobs or lack there of.

I did not find myself relating to the characters very much. Ive never lost a parent, my family never struggled with money and we had to move around or the other end of the spectrum had so much money that they could just move to another country all together. What the two characters experienced was something I did not really connect with or understand.

I liked how they communicated with postcards. It was a cute way of communicating. I am surprised they kept up with it for so long. And I found it highly unrealistic that she was able to just get his address off her old building bell hop man and it just so happen to be there when they went back to their home.

I do not think that it was insta-love. I think they felt lust towards one another while they were on the roof and out on the streets of New York during the blackout (which you would think there would be rioting and chaos in the streets). Since they were separated from one another for so long and they had experiences with other partners they were able to shape their feelings for one another to mean something. That part did feel realistic to me.

The writing in this is wonderful. The book may be a cliche but it works since the writing is well done. Ive read reviews where everyone says that this is their least favourite of her books so I will be interested to give the other ones a shot. If you have any recommendations on which one I should pick up please let me know!
