review 1: This is a fun, futuristic, young adult, fantasy novel. It has a post apocalypsal feel to it without focusing on how horrible the future will be, as is the theme in most other dystopian novels I have read. Within this post apocalypsal world, the earth has been reborn in a sense, and the author is able to use this rebirth of her earth to give its people, animals, and everything on the planet, certain magical or fantastical powers. In addition, there is a fun juxtoposition between the primitve present, and the advanced past. One favorite example of this was the scene where Chalice encounters the low humming of the fridgerator and didn't know what it was. Very funny and clever. There is an age old battle between good and evil. Chalice, a 17 year old girl, given up at bir... moreth and raised by surrogate grandparents, is introduced to the reader as she's running away from her village as it's attacked and destroyed. She sets off on a journey to learn about her heritage and to understand the true meaning of her name and the reasons for her parents abandonment. There are fun suspenseful scenes, interesting back history, and some sweet romances along the way. An enjoyable for anyone who like dystopian, fantasy/sci-fi novels.
review 2: I loved this story! The author uses lots descriptive language that draws you into to this fascinating, magical world. It's full of adventure, plot twists, and romance. The heroine of the story is strong and admirable and the story line is addictive. While the descriptions paint a beautiful, intriguing picture, they can be extensive at times to a fault. The story is good enough to work past that and the difficult to pronounce names. A definite must read for any Fantasy/Sci-Fi lover. less
