Time Spirit Trilogy
review 1: I'm late to this story, first of three, since I picked it up when Ms Pearl offered it for free on Amazon during her January sale. I will have to find some coin for the last two.I really enjoyed the two protagonists, Gemma and Harrison. This volume sets the stage for the rest of the trilogy, so the conflict isn't so much with an opponent as it is with Gemma's nature, which I'll not describe in case you are one of the few who haven't read it. (Or haven't read any of the other reviews...) Suffice to say it aggravates Harrison and strangles Gemma. The other characters fit in, playing their parts as needed, but, appropriate in a story about teens, the most important ones are their parents, and Gemma's twin siblings. Her family is naturally intimately involved in her nature, whic... moreh they share, and the changes in their relationships are an important part of this story.Gemma's relationship with Harrison is not the easy one this reader would have pressed on them, but they survive--through this book, at least. Harrison has the patience of a saint, as they say, and determination, which together allow Gemma to relax and allow her feelings more freedom.I read Golden Blood on my Kindle, and perused it using Kindle for Mac. Formatting on either is good, except on my Kindle, the book opened at Chapter One, missing the short note immediately preceding it. I finally noticed it when flipping pages using the desktop app. It might have put me on the game a little quicker to have seen it first. There are a few editing errors, but not enough to affect my reading. The cover, as usual in my experience, looks very nice on the Mac's color screen and not so impressive on the monotone Kindle. So why only four stars, you ask. The special nature of Gemma and her family, as well as the way it is used, played havoc with my ability to suspend disbelief. I enjoyed the characters and Gemma's travails sufficiently that I wanted to read on in spite of that. Perhaps it won't bother other readers as it did me.I was down to three stars until the end. Up till that point, I had the sense that I knew where everything was going to head, how things would play out, in the main. And they did, which was a little disappointing. However, the ending opened things wide once again, with a twist that I hadn't expected, or may I say, wanted at that point in the story. But it is foreshadowed, and also provides an excellent hook to subsequent books.I recommend Golden Blood to YA and up readers looking for an off-beat approach to solving the world's problems. Or some of them, at least.
review 2: I won a paperback copy of this book a while back in return for an honest review. I was totally wowed and addicted to this amazingly written YA romance/time traveling story. I loved how the author put her own twist on time traveling and the lovable characters in the story. I felt the realness of the story in these characters and the love and dedication that they all had for one an other. I am really excited to read more from this awesome author and where these phenomenal characters next journey will take them. I don't why it took me so long to get to this book but it is a magical story that will grab the attention of the audience and keep you entertained from beginning to end. A RECOMMENDED MUST READ FOR ANY AGE GROUP!! less
