review 1: The book had me hooked from the very first page. It started out in a very suspenseful scene and continued at a fast pace through most of the book to the very end. I personally like to see people use their power or to see more fanasty/paranormal elements in action but the plot twists and the surprises kept me engaged. I thought Aern was a great hero and ironically, his brother Morgan was the villain. Morgan was a very scary guy with a very powerful and deadly ability. I won’t say any more because I don’t want to ruin the story. There was another main character, Emily, who I didn’t care for at all at first but if you stick with it, I think she will grow on you. This was a great read and I recommend it to anyone who likes fast-paced fantasy books in a contemporary set... moreting.
review 2: This book earned four stars for only one reason. Most of the characters seemed very flat to me. The storyline and plot moved along wonderfully, never left me questioning too much, but did leave enough suspense that I wanted to keep reading. However, the main characters seemed like complete cardboard cutouts. We have the main characters: Morgan, Aern, Emily, and Brianna. Emily and Brianna are twin sisters and Moran is Aern's older brother. Morgan has no redeeming qualities whatsoever. He was the baddest of bad guys, which made him a character I could not relate to in any way. Aern seemed to have no bad qualities. He was too perfect. And Brianna and Emily just sort of merged into a single one-sided character. I do have the second book in this series in my physical "to read" pile, so I'm hoping the characters do grow some and start to become more three dimensional, but if the characters had sprouted wings a little more in this book, I could have given it a full five stars because it was a good book. less
