review 1: I won The Eighth Guardian from goodreads giveaway. I was a bit dismayed when I saw that it was part of a trilogy. I hesitated to start it. But, after I did, I was so glad.At first, Divergent came to mind, but it is much more that the typical YA adventure. What's not t like about time traveling? The characters were interesting and believable. The plot actually made sense which some time travel tales don't. All in all, a good read.I look forward to the second installment out this month.
review 2: This book had lots of good plot twists I didn't see coming. There were a couple instances that seemed unnecessary and only to add tension. Maybe I just missed something. In the very beginning, I thought it was odd that Amanda had such a strong feeling that she would grad... moreuate even though she was only a junior and she failed her first test. Then there were a few instances where she and Abe "broke" up- or she thought they had to-that I didn't understand her thought process. Especially after she learned about the families in the Annum Guard. Obviously they have husbands and/or wives so why can't she have a boyfriend? Her immediate, "I'm all alone" , I didn't connect with. But besides me not getting Amanda/Iris in those situations, the book still captured my attention. Enjoyable read. less
