review 1: I loved this book. I was fascinated by this story when it broke a few years ago and, of course, jumped to some conclusions about the various players. It was fascinating to follow Huguette through her life with her family and come to understand some of the reasons she did the things that she did. The author did extensive research and had exclusive access to most of Clark's papers and I've never been so happy to have someone be a hoarder, as the details are great.
review 2: Such an interesting read. The true story of a multi-millionaire recluse, Huguette Clark, who trusted very few people in the world. Her father told her as a young lady that no one would ever love her for her, they would only love her for her money and what she can do for them. I think that s
... moretatement dramatically changed her outlook on life. She did marry but it lasted less than a year. She then spent the rest of her life living with her mother. Once her mother died, she was alone and lonely, rambling around in a huge apartment in NYC. She led a privileged life filled with travel, art, spacious homes, beautiful jewelry and clothes; but none of that made her happy. It was only in her last 20 years living in a hospital (by her choice; she wasn't sick) being taken care of 2 devoted women, that she found companionship again and was happy. Sad story. Even sadder to know her extended family challenged her will and received the bulk of her estate. These family members claimed to be concerned with her welfare but many, many years passed by without any contact or attempts at contact. Money is the cause of their concern, and they got what they wanted when Huguette passed. less

I liked this. It is so bizarre. Not a hard read at all, but fun.
