review 1: While he clears away a lot of the myth that has always surrounded Crockett, the author falls short in really exploring David Crockett the man. Many of his exploits and decisions remain puzzling and unaddressed. His seemingly contradictory attractions to life in the woods and life in the halls of congress is left unexplained. The author has gathered good sources, and created a better picture of Crockett's times than of Crockett himself. Still, worth a read to view a very interesting period in US history.

... moreat well written, it does include a ton of history and you get a feel for what it was like to be among the people settling Tennessee, Kentucky and Texas. A big part of the author's purpose to debunk a lot of the myths around "Davy Crockett" and how Disney and others portrayed him in the 50's. less
