review 1: Friends with benefits and complications.Anna's unhappy with her current long term, long distance relationship of 6 years and decides to break up with Jeff the night he proposes. Jeff still cares about Anna and asks his best friend Drew to check up on her... and they embark on a platonic friendship, which eventually turns into a friends with benefits arrangement. The chemistry's there, but we also learn that Drew's a commitment phobe who only does one night stands, no relationships and Anna's a relationship kind of girl even though she's not ready for another one quite yet. Drew also never mentions to Jeff that there's more to his friendship with Anna than just checking up on her either. This is a typical story with an awful ending. where the H and h form feelings for eac... moreh other but don't bother communicating them; where they don't know how to say I love you - and NEVER do (I hate that); where in a convoluted climax, both Anna and Drew are willing to walk away from each other just to save the friendship between Jeff and Drew (HUH?); where he makes a public plea to meet her and she doesn't go (interesting); and where 3 MONTHS (what?) pass before running into each other in Chicago where she's doing a gallery showing and coincidentally they find each other again?? This book was also fraught with typos and wrong word choice (e.g. "conscious" when it should be "conscience" and the ending was so rushed, I didn't realize it was the end. This also needed an epilogue.
review 2: 4.5Loved this book. After reading a highly emotional book (aka one that made me cry), I needed something light. Then I remembered a friend recommending this to me and saying it was funny. And it was exactly what I needed. I loved the animosity then friendship between Drew and Annabelle. They had me cracking up. I loved the banter between them. And I loved the chemistry they had. Even when they got together, they still fought their attraction and desire to be together. But it worked. I loved the little flashbacks and pieces of history that the characters had. It just added to the connection. My one issue was the way they came back together after they split up. Drew made a huge gesture and Annabelle ignored it. And then it was too quick when they did get together again. They saw each other and ran to each other and HEA. I just wish Anna had done something to show Drew that she did want him. But other than the quick resolution, I loved this. Especially the explanation of Drew’s nickname Annabelle; that just made my heart melt. less
