review 1: LOVED THIS BOOK! It grabbed me with the first 4 pages. This story is jam packed with mystery, adventure, relationships. This is my first book by Michelle Diener, but it won't be my last. I must comment on one of the main circumstances in the story. One of the villains preys on young boys. A few of the characters are his victims. Normally, I would not finish the book with this in it, because usually it is added to the story to entice the readers. This was not the case in this book. The "acts" are never described in any details. The victims even after a decade, are embarrassed, feel guilty. The author points out that they are not to blame in any way, only the villian is to blame. Any child who has suffered sexual abuse at the hands of an adult will identify with the charact... moreers and will feel better. Michelle Diener, thank you for the way you handled a very sensitive subject. That being said, the over all story has so many twists and turns. It was a joy to read!!!
review 2: Story of a young girl brought up in poverty in London, to be found and rescued by a wealthy patron, and how she is trying to walk a line and fit into two drastically different worlds, yet finds she doesn't quite belong in either. Trying to do the right thing and save an acquaintance's sons from molestation, she unwittingly finds herself in the middle of a plot to siphon England's gold to France and tentatively allied with Lord Durnham, a talk, dark, and handsome noble who works for the crown and finds her so very interesting and arresting. Nothing that is going to stretch your brain, but a fun, quick read. less

Great story - cared about the characters - a little bit of history to make it more believable.

Quite good, though a little all-over-the-place. Liked the characters and enjoyed the story.
