review 1: I gave Fitz by Mick Cochrane 4 stars, maybe 3.5 would be more accurate. I enjoyed it and finished it pretty quickly. It held my interest and kept me turning the pages. Fitz is the well-told story of a boy whose father has never, as far as Fitz knows, been a part of his life. His mother has never told him much about his father, and when Fitz learns that his father lives nearby he becomes rather obsessed with learning more about his dad. So, logically enough, Fitz buys an illegal gun and kidnaps his father. The ending is a bit too white-bread pleasant, but as I said, I kept turning those pages 'til the very end.
review 2: Fitzgerald John McGrath a kid who usually plays by the rules, is polite and doesn't give his mom any problems has decided to purchase a gun and... more force his father to spend time with him. Fitz, as he's called, has no recollection of his father having last seen him when he was an infant. Although his father, Curtis, provides financial support he is not involved in Fitz's life. Fitz's efforts to gather information about his father from Annie, his mother haven't proven successful. The premise of this book is interesting but the execution was a bit stilted. The characters aren't fleshed out and seem one dimensional. In addition, there is never a big reveal about Annie and Curtis' relationship. It seems to me that other than having a child together their relationship was uneventful and somewhat generic. I feel like this could have been a much better story with a bit more detail. 2.5 stars. less
