review 1: For the full review with all the pictures visit my website Goodreadsmadreads.comI first read Under The Blood Red Moon about 6 years ago. I loved it so much I re-read it recently; and was able to refresh my memory on why exactly I had loved it so much the first time around.I lived with my best friends family for a long time; there wasn’t much to do at the house after school and Barnes and Noble was just down the street; so me and my friend would sit in the café there with our books for hours reading. It was our own personal safe haven, book club, and I loved it. We had just finished Glass House by Rachel Caine and still had 30 minutes to kill so I wandered the isles. It was getting late and I remember they were starting to shut everything down; when a black and red book... more spine stood out to me, screaming. It was in the Adult Fiction section. In those days I only read Young Adult novels so I wasn’t really looking for anything to read but the authors name, MINA, stuck out to me because it was my nickname. I pulled the book from its shelf and was immediately intrigued. The cover was gorgeous, and the title beautiful. I quickly learned it was a vampire novel, which I was all about in those days. So I figured it was a sign and bought the book with my last $20 I was suppose to use for bus fair and food. Here are some of the Excerpts from Under The Blood Red Moon that got me to fork out my ride money.I have the paperback version of this book, which I love, but looking back on how I used to just throw my books into my backpack with all my other shit, I wish I would have taken a little better care of it… lets just say its “well loved”The font and letter design on the inside make the book feel like a fairytale. I was really brought into the time period (1871 London, which really if that isn’t enough to get you to want to read what will?) I can’t get enough of these old London time period books. If you’re like me, you will love this book and you might also want to check out Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Claire or Shadow of the wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon. Under The Blood Red Moon is the beautiful, slightly erotic story of Angelica Shelton Belanov, a girl cursed with the gift to read minds; and Alexander Kourakin the powerful leader in an ancient clan of vampires from the east. This story starts out very well; Angelica who has avoided marriage in the past due to the alarming things she can hear from her suitors, is now trying to find a rich husband so her brother, who has suffered some health issues, does not find out how financially screwed they are. It’s not going that great for her and then she meets Prince Alexander; a mysterious man who can speak to her with his mind. She senses the danger surrounding him, but cannot will herself away from his presence, just as he cannot stop her from distracting him from more important ventures. The vampires in this book are not like any other I have read before; they seem more ancient, following sacred laws and procedures; they are also more human than vampires I have read in the past. They are a dying race waiting for there prophecy to come true. None of the old vampire cliché’s in here. This book had me hooked from beginning to end, the story is not just told in Angelicas POV, but many others which I liked. You really got a better understanding of things that way. I don’t think I really need to give you an excuse to buy a beautiful book to display on your shelf because, lets face it, the cover art is amazing on this. But it’s also a great read. If you like vampire books, this one is awesome; more old school adult Anne Rice feel than new school Stephanie Myer YA Vamps which in my opinion is a good thing. Here I’ll make it really simple if you’re even slightly interested just get the book! You’ll thank me later!
review 2: Nothing new really. Vampires? Check. Slayers? Check. Cliche Damsel in Distress? Check. The only thing I liked in this book was the fact that Angelica could reply with her endless list of quotes. It's amusing how she uses them.Everything in this book is the same as other books, using the same storyline with a couple of changes, villains (slayers), etc. I know this is her debut novel but at least try to stray from the common things found in vampire novels ne?Angelica being the Blessed one was a dead giveaway when Hepsen mentioned that the Blessed One was the only way to save the Vampire Race. Who better then the main character? Sigh. less
