review 1: A great idea that suffers from poor execution. I've read Yip's previous novels so I am used to her writing style which can be off-putting for some. I enjoyed reading about Lily's journey on the Silk Road. I was engaged and curious about her journey and the tasks she needed to perform. My main issue with this novel is the romance. A large portion of this novel is devoted to the relationship between Alex and Lily but never once did I believe their relationship. I was more interested in Lily and her growth while on her adventure as opposed to her romantic life. Overall, a disappointing read.
review 2: I was so tired with re-reading the same old young adult novel that I decided that maybe it was time to try a "big girl" book. So I picked Song of the Silk Road hop
... moreing to get myself away from the same old same old young adult book plots. Guess what? I found an adult novel with a young adult plot. How so? Well, it has it's angst, it's stupidity of "Well you're an idiot." sort of main charecter, and (what bothers me THE MOST) she falls in love with someone within just a few days. Granted, she doesn't admit it, but you still know she has "deep feelings" for this boy and that they'll end up together. Geez, such dissapointment!! I had to literally FORCE myself to continue reading it. It has a Cinderella happily ever after ending that just makes me want to gag. Over all: DON'T READ THIS BOOK. less
