review 1: synopsis:the army has created a superspecies soldier, and the only thing that will save it's/his life is having sex, the scientists have concluded. unfortunately, klt23, or kelty, doesn't accept any of the women that the army have provided him. they finally conclude that maybe only a male will do to have sex with him, as a male will be more equal to him in terms of strength. horatio has been watching kelty, and falling in love, for the past few months. when he lets the others know that he would not be averse, he gets his wish.what i liked: even though it was really short, the story was well formed. the characters had a connection with each other, and learning that kelty was doing certain things on purpose because he knew horatio was there watching him was cute.what i didn'... moret like: i definitely would have liked to see more story. horatio and kelty were interesting.
review 2: KLT23 by Missy Welsh is a futuristic erotic comedy that finds a new way to explore the ever-intriguing Pygmalion theme of a creator who falls in love with his creation. Set against the amusingly unromantic backdrop of both the spit-and-polish military and the abstract world of scientific research, the story has fun with the idea of sex as just another variable in the experiment. In this particular future, no one in the military could possibly care less if a soldier turns out to be gay – especially if he’s willing to exploit his own sexual orientation for the good of his country. Meanwhile, the research scientist, who runs out of ideas, seeks inspiration from old episodes of the original Star Trek series. Add to this an extended and hot sex scene and a surprisingly devious streak to the research subject, and you have all the right ingredients for some satiric fun.The story opens in the first-person viewpoint of Sergeant Muir, assigned to observe and guard KLT23, also known as Kelty, who is the twenty-third attempt of the military to use genetic engineering to build the perfect soldier. All of the previous twenty-two specimens failed to survive. As a lowly guard, Muir is not exactly on the same exalted level as a creator. However, he has grown fascinated with the handsome and perfect specimen of manhood that is Kelty during the time he has observed him, and fantasizes that they could be lovers.Muir is as horrified as the scientists and generals when it appears that Kelty is running a possibly lethal fever due to an unknown cause. One of the scientists makes the intuitive leap that Kelty might need to have sex (much as Mr. Spock did in “that Star Trek episode”) to save his life. In come the female volunteers, but Kelty rejects them all. In a sudden burst of optimism (and opportunism), Muir offers to test the sexual waters to see if Kelty might want a male lover. The resulting encounter is full of surprises.Val for AReCafe less

Hot, but too short and the characters were not developed enough even for a short story.
