review 1: I've never read any Jane Austen novels (quietly hangs head in shame), so I figured this would be a good introduction. Gosh, even in this adaptation some of the language is really hard to parse and the social interactions are so complicated. I do appreciate that it wasn't turned into late 20th century vernacular or valley girl speak or something, but now I know I never would have made it through actual Jane Austen! And I had a hard time keeping a few of the (more minor) characters straight. I enjoyed the graphical style, although the book did seem to combine two different styles. The primary one was elongated and elegant, but every now and then there would be some panels where the characters were sort of squashed and caricatured. (I'd say 'cartoony', but, um... yeah. Not qu... moreite the right word in the context of a graphic novel!) Was this done for a reason, to convey something in particular? If so, I didn't catch it.I would probably read graphic novel adaptations of Jane Austen, but I'm not going to rush out to do it.
review 2: The art is quite sweet, embodying a bit of whimsy in the characters which helps the narrative retain the same affectionate, winking tone of the original work. A bit more distinction between male characters would have been helpful, even if it were just in choosing different palettes for the clothing. The adaptation itself is fair, but it does tend toward the excessively wordy in the latter half. Deciding which characters and scenes to include and to what extent is one of the most important tasks of a project like this, and some aren't fully supported. Nonetheless, the end result is pleasant and nearly satisfying. less

I disegni non mi piacciono un granchè anche se la storia è resa abbastanza bene.

I just didn't like the art, but this is an admittedly personal preference.
