review 1: Wow-what a story! This woman survived some pretty tough situations in her life and floundered...working her way up to 703 pounds. Still, she managed to work her way out of that place and re-join society at a healthy weight. I especially appreciate the fact that in this era of laying blame and shifting responsibility, she owned up to her problem and faced it head on. While she could have portrayed herself as a victim and blame her weight gain on outside influences and events, she didn't. She wasn't perfect, but she is human and comes at life with a great attitude.
review 2: I've struggled with my weight my whole life, but I have not known what it feels like to reach a weight that traps you in your home. Nancy Makin lets us into that world and helps us understand
... more just what it is like. I think a lot of people wonder how someone gets to a weight that keeps you from being able to move and she tells us that too. So many people think it's just laziness and that just isn't the case. Obviously I can't speak for someone at this weight, or for the author of this book, but I believe that emotions are the main reason for cases like this, and even for lower weights like mine. Those with truly healthy lives and minds don't medicate. What I like best about Nancy's story is that it didn't involve surgery to lose the weight and that she just did what made her happy. She healed her mind and that healed her body. less

This all goes down in Grand Rapids, Michigan, making it much more interesting to me. . .
