review 1: Good but not great-- 2.75? It felt like an airplane book, to be honest, in that it was engaging enough and I didn't mind turning the pages, but I don't think it'll really stick with me or change my life. My favorite part might be that I got to revisit or be introduced to the plot lines of a lot of Greek tragedies, and it almost made me want to take a lit class to read a bunch of plays. I wish it had made me want to go to Edinburgh-- and I do! I really do!-- but this really could have taken place anywhere, so the fact that it's in Scotland didn't make much of a difference. For the most part this felt a bit shallow and undeveloped, but I'm not disappointed to have read it. -sarah
review 2: I spent a majority of the time reading this book with that tune from Jaws
... more running in the back of my head. The book itself was low key enough but you KNOW something is coming and it is going to be big and it may or may not surprise you, but even if you figure out that the shark is coming that doesn't lessen the anticipation waiting for it. As if that weren't enough, the author drags in some nice Greek mythology, theatre references, and Scotland. Although the storyline appeared to drag at moments and I wanted it to speed up (to the shark), that anticipation and mystery is what made it a good book. less

2.5 starsBest part for me was revisiting the Greek tragedies I haven't read since college.

I liked the back and forth narrative and the backward storytelling. Good story
