review 1: The dreaded one star. It takes a really bad book to completely disconnect me from the writing. I couldn't wait to finish, not because I was excited for the ending to find out what happened, just so it can go on my read list and never be seen again. Some books give you so much information you get bored. This book gives you nothing. There is no explanation about this world, no evidence as to what makes the dreaded Reds so dreaded. There is just action, death, more action. The characters are all terrible, flat and boring. I was seriously glad most of them died.Boring, do not recommend. Shouldn't have bought this one, too late now.
review 2: Silver is an Elite in training - an agent designed to kill. She lives in a city called Neo-Babel hundreds of years in the f
... moreuture when the earth is no longer as we know it, but she is also a 'Red' - an ethnic Chinese - and therefore in the lower half of society. On the day of her first assignment guarding the city's council, everything goes wrong. With her parents missing and the city in uproar, Silver is forced to confront life Outside - beyond the walls of the city. She sets out on a journey to find her parents and ultimately, the truth.THE ELITES was a fantastic, thrilling read. I read it slowly to make sure that I could savour every last drop and I would highly recommend it for anyone who likes dystopian or fantasy. For me, it felt like a hybrid of the two forms. I went into it expecting to read a dystopian YA novel, but there were lots of fantasy elements too that I thought were brilliant. The main fantasy-esque factor for me, was the amazing attention to detail with regards to world-building. I'm all about world-building and it was executed so well in this novel. Neo-Babel is colourful, fascinating and well-thoughtout. I loved the mix of cultures and that's what made this book so 'different' to other YA novels. It really stood out and it was immensely enjoyable. less

Multi-cultural cities is not exactly a futuristic idea, but ok, we'll see.

Very slow book to reach climax. Found it okay, nothing too very special.
