review 1: This little book is a graphic non-fiction. It contains 136 tips and advice for behavior for those living in NYC. It is hilarious. Many of the tips are solid practical advice presented in a tongue in cheek fashion. For example "One $20 umbrella will outlast 4 $5 umbrellas." and "What is a Bodega? A grocery + a sandwich shop + unique international snack selection ---> magic ---> squeezed into a small space." My favorite was "In time you will eventually make sense of complex things such as the Union Square subway station." I go to this station to visit the big Barnes and Noble store, but I always guess wrong as to which exit to take. I checked it out from the library; it can be read in about 30 minutes. It is also available as as an animated e-book whereby the cartoon... mores come to life. Worth a look, especially for those who live or frequently visit NYC.
review 2: This was an interesting, informative, entertaining, all-around fun book. Even as just an occasional visitor to NYC, a lot of his tips resonated with me and made me laugh and also helped me understand a little better. And in fact, many of his tips apply to getting along well with others in any big city or congested area (from mass transit systems to bustling sidewalks to cafe condiment stations). So everyone should read it, as a civic duty. less
