review 1: An enjoyable collection of prominent New Yorker's first moments in the city, from Liza Minelli's Broadway experience that forever turned her away from the career in ice-skating she'd always wanted, to a man wanting to buy the jeans Parker Posey was wearing. It's refreshing to know that everyone in New York had to start somewhere, and that, more often than not, it wasn't the glossy and glamorous as much as the gritty and galvanized.
review 2: I won this book in a First Reads Getaway. I'm not really surprised at all at how intriguing I find these stories. I love New York and remember my first visit at 15 like it was yesterday. I am in love with the way Dan Rather compares Texans to New Yorkers. I don't think I could agree with him more. I'm sick and tired; but I
... more can't seem to put the book down. It's a quick easy fun read and I wish I could just keep on reading. Andy Samberg's story made me laugh. I love his comedy and I could literally see him sitting on that couch with a squirt gun. It surprised me how many of these people came from Texas. But most surprising was Jenny Joslin. Texas State University graduate; just 12 miles from my apartment. less
