review 1: entrancing, a tale as well woven as a coy, lippy, tortured and abandoned, hypersexual and bloodthirsty homosexual teenager could ever live! Vincent has a lively and enchanting voice as we experience with him, a homeless teenager taken in by a "knight in shining armani" who learns the bloody trade of taking lives from his new guardian even as he teaches his beloved murderer what it means to live! a range and flood of emotions few stories can contain all at once with enough twists and turns and hot assassin sex to leave anyone dying (some most literally) for more. This book was already one of my favorites before i even finished it and i think young Vincent may well be one of my favorite story characters of all time, a reread that ive reread over and over and will undoubtedly... more continue to do so many times yet. i HIGHLY recommend this book, weather you are a fan of gay romance or not, to anyone who adores a story with romance and action and intrigue and a good helping of ornery teenager and angsty frenchmen.
review 2: 4.5. While this book was a little slow in places, I really enjoyed Vincent's fresh, youthful pov. It really read like a 17 year old protagonist (and not in an annoying way!). Both leads had insecurities that affected their behaviours in completely different ways, but opposites definitely attract in this relationship. Their cold approach to murder and near orgasmic reactions to taking a life felt weird to read about, but was explained in both characters back stories - I just wasn't sure what I was supposed to feel (am worried I wasn't a little more horrified..... less
