review 1: This is family history at it's finest! The author has documented the stories of both of his parents experiences with WW2. Then how they found each other, the early days of their family life and how they joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I confess it took me some time to get in to the flow of the book; with alternating perspectives written in a more narrative format. But eventually it smoothed out, and it was a very interesting story! Originally picked this one up for my 11 y.o. history buff son, but I always preview them first. It's a 2-weeker at the library & he hasn't started it yet, so Idk if he'll get a chance - & I'm not sure if it's really what he has in mind. But I enjoyed it.
review 2: So, so good! The book was hard to put down -
... moreI kept wondering how Gustav and Agnes would meet. I'm always fascinated by WWII stories, and this one included perspectives from both sides; a Jewish woman sent to a concentration camp and a Norwegian/Swede who signed up as a German soldier. I know one of Gustav's and Agnes' grandchildren, and he was the one who recommended this book to me. I'm glad I read it! less
