review 1: Eve Stevens has had enough of dealing with disastrous divorce cases and couples throwing plates at each other. A pretty, bright, curvaceous American lawyer established in Paris, Eve’s decided the present case involving a blonde bimbo and an awkward nerd will be her last divorce case EVER. But that’s when, while waiting in the halls of family court, she crosses paths with a handsome stranger with dark eyes. He’s intriguing, he’s hot but Eve thinks she’ ll probably never see him again, right? Wrong.Guillaume de la Landrerie, a recently divorced attorney, comes from a wealthy, traditional family, the kind of family that has no qualms whatsoever arranging marriages and throwing in words like “heir” and “dowry” in every conversation. He instantly falls for Eve... more when he sees her fleetingly in court dealing with her basket case of a client. And he knows he must see her again.Destiny throws them back together on a flight for Miami where they escape cold, icy, wintery Paris and head towards a very heated destination on Christmas Eve.What’s not to like about Eve? A strong, confident woman who knows what she wants, Eve isn’t devoid of all insecurities, which makes her human, realistic, relatable and downright lovable. And with all the Ashleys and Kellys out there, Eve is a nice change for a main character’s appellation.Guillaume is also likable although I have a strong preference for Eve. With a touch of arrogance, he remains down-to-earth which is surprising for a man of his background. Straightforward and driven, it’s a little hard to determine how his character will unfold. Although we follow both Eve and Guillaume’s point of view, the latter’s aspirations, his motivations remain a mystery which definitely made me want to read the next installment just to find out more about him.The plot is intelligent with fun legal cases, smart dialogue and a very palpable attraction climaxing in a steamy sex scene with Miami’s skyline beautifully painted as a background.I can only regret that there isn’t more. It’s way too short and by the time you get attached to the characters, even the secondary ones (please give us more of Thierry, her fun, gay, pilot friend), you’re already at the last page. And then there’s Christopher, Eve’s hunky ex, who I’m dying to learn more about. It’s a good thing the following books of the Eve Trilogy are already out because I’m as impatient as a girl waiting to open her presents on Christmas Eve.
review 2: When I look at other reviews for this book I feel like I must have received a different version. The story started off well enough where it captured my attention regarding the two main characters. However, it was not long before I fell off track due to the story being disjointed and kind of all over the place. The main female character switched from first person POV to third person POV and back again. Supporting characters were added that I felt the author spent way too much detail and attention on.The book is described as erotica and others have referred to it as hot and steamy. I am sorry I did not get either one of those versions. There were two scenes that stand out for me: 1) a dream by the main character that was described in such a way that a) you knew it was a dream and b) it was so fragmented and out of place that it could have been left out of the story completely. 2) When the main character and the object of her attraction finally meet- for me there was no connection- so the so called steamy scene felt more luke warm and told in an amateurish way. I have read steamier in regular romance stories. Finally, the ending was horrible. I understand that this is the first in a series but the author ended it so abruptly and with no cliff hanger that made sense. In one chapter the main character and her object of attraction ended their relationship with no explanation of what happened to the reader being told about some man that she apparently has been involved with then... BOOM... story ends. (This is no exaggeration). I would be okay if this was a true erotica story and the book focused solely on the sex... but that was not the case. I picked up this ebook because it was free on Amazon..enough said. less
