review 1: Reading Oscar Casarez's Amigoland brought back many great and sad memories. As a child having the fortune of knowing my great grandmother and maternal grandparents I was able to quickly relate to the Don Fidencio and his plight. To have been an independent soul and now stuck in a nursing home with people doing their job but but not allowing him to live life as he once had, is demoralizing and sad. Coming to the rescue is his now retired younger brother who has aging issues of his own. This a great book, Mexican culture through out. If you grew up around your abuelitios, Tios, and Familia, this book will take you back to those wonderful days!
review 2: Fidencio is a crotchety old Mexican, put in a nursing home against his will by his daughter, and his brother C
... moreelestino is a retired barber, having an affair with his much younger cleaning lady. When he steals his brother from the nursing home and heads for the border with his girlfriend, the three embark on a funny, sweet and enlightening Mexican road trip that will change each of them forever. An entertaining read. less

I didn't finish this book. I just couldn't get into it, and didn't relate to it at all.
