review 1: This was a fun story, but full of editorial and historical errors. The characters were fun and kept the story alive but there were quite a few problems within the story itself. The most glaring was Thanksgiving being celebrated in France and dollars were not used in France... I also thought it highly unlikely for a career rough and tough sea captain to fall in love with a girl of that age. There was a decent inspirational theme, but that was about all I can say positive about it
review 2: I downloaded Stowaway Heart on Kindle because the plot sounded interesting, and I love reading historical fiction. The book started out good (not great, but good). The writing style reminded me of something a 10-year-old might write, but I kept reading because I was curious wh
... moreat was going to happen to the characters. The book went downhill from there. Oh, boy, where do I start? Like I mentioned earlier, the actual writing was flawed and could have greatly benefitted from a decent editor. The main character, Francine, was a whiny, holier-than-thou, annoying wimp. I felt like all she did in the book was cry, and several times I wanted to reach through the pages and shake some common sense into her.The hero of the story (if you can call him that), Captain Caldwell, creeped me out. I'm sorry, but Francine was WAY too young for him, and he had no business going after her. I also didn't like that the book made it seem like he was some kind of monster because he had premarital sex (at least I think he did? This book reminds me of a Victorian novel where they only give you a few details and they just hint at things like affairs, and they leave the readers to fill in the rest). While I do think sex should be saved for marriage because of what the Bible teaches, Captain Caldwell wasn't even a Christian at the time. And what about grace? If God is willing to forgive and extend grace, then Christians should do the same. The book was extremely preachy and at times felt more like a sermon than a novel. This is coming from a conservative Christian, by the way. I love reading Christian books, but this was too much, even for me. Historical writers have a hard time because if they get even one fact wrong, someone will call them out on it. I don't know my history well enough to do that, but even *I* spotted several flaws in Stowaway Heart. Wow, I didn't know they celebrated Thanksgiving in France! And they use US Dollars, too? Um, yeah...This was one of those train wreck books for me, where it's so terrible that you can't stop reading because you want to see how much worse it can get. Some people might like Stowaway Heart, but it wasn't for me. less

Meh. A quick, easy read with a predictable plot.
