review 1: Leitura classificada apenas com 3 estrelas devido à relação de antipatia que estabeleci com Ben, uma das personagens principais, ao mesmo tempo que me apetecia dar uns fortes abanões a Laura, a outra personagem principal.No final do livro a ideia que consegui reter foi "as mulheres são mesmo umas burras e os homens são uns verdadeiros egoístas!!!"Que me perdoe o autor, mas vê-se bem que este livro tinha que ser escrito por um homem, pois não transmite toda a sensibilidade que deveria transmitir...De salientar com nota positiva as breves passagens divertidas com a mãe de Laura, uma idosa que adoptou o naturismo como forma de vida, mesmo apesar das suas limitações físicas, bem como os apontamentos referentes ao irmão de Ben e a forma carinhosa como a sua doen�... more�a é abordada.Um livro que se lê rapidamente mas que não merece mais do que 3 estrelas.
review 2: As with many readers I'd read Notes From An Exhibition first and had been very impressed with Gale's storytelling. I'd been on the hunt for more of his books and came across A Whole Day Through whilst rummaging through a family members bookshelf.It is definitely another beautifully honest and emotional story lined with wonderful language and tone. It installs calm but isn't afraid to confront difficult subjects such as the sexuality of Downs Syndrome sufferers, HIV/AIDS, the fragility of the elderly presenting them as the norm within people's lives. It explores these situations from the perspectives of those confronted with them on a daily basis and how it impacts and affects their relationships with others.It was a story i wasn't sure about and likely wouldn't have picked up if it hadn't been for the reputation of Gale. Give it a go! less
