review 1: I cannot believe I gave Paulina Simons two stars :/. I adore her Bronz Horseman Trilogy and this, Children of Liberty, is its prequel. Altho I loved the Oscar Wilde like bantor, I felt the storyline did not answer any questions I had tying it to the other books. Possibly this prequel will also be a trilogy altho this first lacks much enthusiasm for me to continue. Last, even I who find discussion on Communism and Anarchy interesting, felt there was more than enough ... Way more than enough ....Zzzzzzz .... Oh yes quite enough. I recommended Paulina Simons The Bronz Horseman to everyone I knew. I will not be recommending Children of Liberty.
review 2: Definitely not my kind of book. I didn't realise it was a prequel to a series when I borrowed it, but I di
... moredn't care about any of the characters and perhaps knowing the series would help. I doubt it though. I looked up the series afterwards and it does not appeal to me at all. The theme of the story kept changing. At first it seemed to be about a family immigrating, which seemed interesting, then it was about the daughter suddenly being able to attend and understand political meetings and then it was a wishy-washy love story. It was needlessly long, seemed historically inaccurate, the ending was predictable and I couldn't believe in any of the characters. less

Disappointing - lazy and not engaging. Such a let-down after the glorious Bronze Horseman.

Totally missed the mark of being a pre-quel to the Bronze Horseman. Disconnect and boring.

This was a very heart-wrenching story that left me emotionally drained. Loved it!
