review 1: Peter Piot's "No Time To Lose" is a political thriller and science non-fiction at its best. In four parts and 22 chapters he gives insights in his professional life as clinical microbiologist and senior UN staff from 1976 to 2008.Though its a brilliant read I felt a bit tired in the end. Too much name-dropping and repetition of similar or same stories in last part especially is the downside of the book.
review 2: I have never read a book with so many acronyms on each page.I was for more interested in the science and sociology surrounding the infectious diseases that the United Nations combats on a global level. National and international politics do seem to be the driving force behind international health campaigns, however.Peter Piot's memoir spans thirty year
... mores. When he began his career in infectious diseases he was told it was a dead end, that all the infectious diseases had been conquered. This turned out not to be the case. First Ebola, then the worldwide AIDS epidemic demanded Dr. Piot's attention, as he made his way to a top administrative position with the United Nations. less
