review 1: The book begins the conversation about what we should do about the broken government we have. Follow-on works will develop those ideas, but somebody has to start it and this is the best I have seen. It also provided some new insights as to why our government is broken. There are several habits that we have that cause the government to be broken. We are in danger of losing our democracy, but democracy is always a target for those who want to rule by other means. No matter where you stand politically, this book is a must.

In your own house, it would be a mess really soon if you never cleaned the refrigerator or took out the trash or gave bags of clothes to charity. Government is a like a hoarder, Howard says, and he makes a very convincing argument. Howard doesn't just point out what's wrong: he has concrete suggestions of how to fix it. I hope that this book will be widely read, so that change can happen in a proactive way and not though the negative way of having our system fall apart first. less
