review 1: Okay, Linnet Ellery is an associate lawyer at a high Powered law firm. Why the "P"? Because this law firm is run by vampires and vampires as well as other non-humans are called Powers. I figure that Linnet has more going for her than is leaked in this book. She survives 3 violent attacks - why? Seems a set up for future installments. Pretty standard fare for the genre, fun none the less and I enjoyed it 3.5 stars worth.
review 2: In the world of Kat Richardson, Ilona Andrews and Seanan McGuire, Phillipa Bornikova hits about mid range with this book. This Case is Gonna Kill Me is the story of a newly graduated young lawyer existing in a supernatural world of vampire lawyers, ticked off werewolves and a hunky PI Sidhe. Murder and mayhem ensues as the young lawyer... more begins to unravel and solve some long cold cases. The book is certainly readable, but it deteriorates when the hunky private eye begins to show his Sidhe side and becomes even more disappointing at the end. I am not sure why so many authors feel the need to include a romantic angle or why they need to develop it so quickly. Still the writing flowed well enough that I think I will give the second in the series a chance with the hope that the author will trust more in the strength in her character, have less supernatural floss and jettison and hopefully discover an exciting plot. less
