review 1: Really rather special. It is very sparse and you don't get a neat resolution. In fact I wonder if I really understood it but I think that's OK. Was going to start talking about the author's intentions for a moment and then my mid to late 90s Theory phase clicked on to autopilot (like the central heating when the temp dips under 16 degrees on an August night). I recommend this to anyone who likes Nordic Noir, even though it's nothing like the NN I know (basically Nesbø and Mankell).
review 2: A very brief, enigmatic book. At first gave it 3 stars but then decided on 4. It's beautifully written, quiet, thoughtful - a man in a small village is shot. Not the kind of place where these things happen. There are no clues. His partner learns how little she knows a... morebout him, and ultimately herself. And her neighbors, her family.. Though I'm glad I read it, not inspired to read anything more by this author. less
