review 1: This book is filled with magical moments! I thoroughly enjoyed learning the ins and outs of Ren especially with her inner thoughts being shared. She is rather quirky! I liked the development of her relationship with Axel and I even enjoyed how her relationship with Dean has shifted. Aside from Ren, Dean and Axel, I must say all the characters have bold personalities, which is much appreciated since they're all so different from one another. It was so enjoyable seeing how they all interacted with each other in a variety of situations. The book opened with tragedy and ended in the same manner so I'm intrigued to see what happens in the next installment. I'm sure it'll be just as magical as this one.
review 2: I’m excited to share my thoughts on a new YA paranor
... moremal romance, Dracian Legacy. (*Minor spoilers below*)Voice Pros: Priya nails YA voice with Ren’s thoughts, words and actions. Cons: There were some otherwise gorgeous and/or steamy scenes that were completely ruined (for me) by Ren’s inner monologues.Main Character Pros: Ren feels like a real person. She makes good choices and some incredibly not-so-good choices, like ANY teenage girl would do. Cons: But holy smokes, this girl is constantly on the hormone highway. Almost anything makes her hot and bothered.Plot Pros: Priya creates a unique world within our own, ancient races warring against each other, and Ren is key to it all. Cons: A lot of the overall plot is lost in a sea of never-ending love scenes. Ren makes out, or wants to make out, with someone in almost every chapter of the book. So when we get to the pinnacle love scene, for example, it wasn’t as impacting as it might have been otherwise.Love Interests Pros: I’m a fan of love triangles. In YA, characters are often trying to figure out who they are and different love interests can feed different needs of a character. In Dracian Legacy, Priya gives us two swoon worthy hunks, both with secrets of their own, both appeal to Ren in a different way. Cons: The Ren/Axel relationship felt like insta-love. I wasn’t really convinced their feelings went beyond anything more than a lustful attraction. And Dean, though I hated him in the beginning, became more likeable, only to have Ren toy with him. BACK TO PROS: (Speaking of which, DID YOU KNOW that the paperback version of Dracian Legacy has additional scenes from alternate POVs? I will pay someone in gum to send me any of DEAN’S scenes. I want more DEAN.)Other Pros: Fight Scenes are A-mazing, great action and easy to visualize.Overall Dracian Legacy was a fun read and I can’t wait to see where the next book takes us!**Content Note: This is classed as a YA, but parents should be aware that the content is appropriate for 16+ years. There’s nothing too explicit, but it does contain quite a bit of swearing, discussions about sex, and steamy make-out sessions.** less
