A respected presence in the Houston entrepreneurial community, Jamal Daniel guides Crest Investment Company as chairman. Jamal Daniel also leads Levantine Films, which has been a driving force in bringing culturally relevant, character-driven movies to the Hollywood screen. Among its films in development is The Sunshine Cruise Company, based on John Niven’s novel of the same title.

The plot of the movie revolves around the lives of two school friends from the same locality in Dorset, England, who are turning 60 and looking over their lives up to now. Facing a number of life setbacks, Susan Frobisher and Julie Wickham conspire in a bank robbery and round out their motley crew with a grandson who has a terminal illness and an ornery nursing home resident out for one last adventure.

With a nod to caper films such as Thelma and Louise, the book is by an author whose debut, Kill Your Friends, achieved acclaim for its biting satire of the music industry. The film version of Niven’s 2008 debut is also in production for major theatrical release.
