review 1: I like the sweet spin on the Little Red Riding Hood story. The big bad wolf parents have a sweet little wolf who they send out into the woods. Her love for "all things pretty and pink and fairy tales" leads her into trouble, but quickly turns around for good. The story reads quite fast and ends not with an "Aha!" moment, but rather a "Huh?" moment. It started off great and I had high hopes for this story, but the ending felt too didactic. Plus, it ended too abruptly. However, kids who don't like the scary, original Little Red Riding Hood will appreciate this version.
review 2: This book is a sweet alternative to the traditional red riding hood story. In this story, the sweet little wolf doesn't want to eat little red riding hood, but is pressured by her parents
... more to become a big bad wolf. The sweet little wolf then attempts to eat red riding hood by hiding in her Granny's bed, but ends up falling asleep and getting caught. Red riding hood and the sweet little wolf become friends, and the sweet little wolf tells her parents that she doesn't want to be bad and they accept her for who she is. I liked this book as it showed that there can be a happy ending for red riding hood and the wolf. I also liked it because it was a more appropriate story for younger children that may have found the original story a little bit too scary. This book is suitable for the foundation stage and key stage one. I used this book in a nursery class when we had a theme of the little red riding hood. The children really enjoyed listening to this story. less
