review 1: Interesting. I find something magical and transcendent in the existence of these living things that, in most instances, have been around longer than shared human memory. There is a certain beauty in the gnarled roots and broken branches, in the endless interconnection of the clonal colonies, in the time-warn surfaces. There is also a sadness in the knowledge that humans, in our comparatively infinitesimal tenure on this planet, have and continue to threaten the very existence of the other living beings we should be protecting, some of the grandest of which are represented in the photos throughout this book.
review 2: Similar to National Geographic magazine, this is one that is more about the amazing photos than the depth of the text. An incredible project to... more document the oldest living things on the planet- our elders in life- to appreciate, respect and learn from their stories of perseverance. It should give us pause and cause for action when living things that have weathered thousands of years of climactic twists and turns may now be threatened by shifts they may not survive. less
