review 1: Written by Carolyn Haines under a pseudonym, but it is very typical Haines. With one exception: the "scare factor" wasn't explained away. In other words, the supernatural stayed that way rather than being discovered as something else. In every other Haines book I have read, the scare turns out to be a hoax, imagination, or other man-made devices (drugs, accomplices, etc.) I was extremely surprised when the "nester" wasn't given a rational explanation. It made the book truly scary! But I loved the "ghost story" aspect of the tale, and sort of wonder if the ending leads to a sequel...?
review 2: This is a classic scary horror story like people would tell around the campfire. Twenty one year old Mimi is a governess for a wealthy family and things are going well u
... morentil the family takes in Annie, a 16 year old orphan with amnesia. Shortly after her arrival, the family's own 16 year old daughter, Margo, disappears. Mimi sees a strange creature and finds claw marks and is convinced that Annie is evil and is behind all of the bad things that begin happening once she arrives. I did not really like Mimi's character very much. I received this book free to review from Netgalley. less

Supernatural thriller--adult but very YA friendly. Had the feel of Turn of the Screw.
