Norman had always been perfectly normal, playing with his friends and eating ice creams, until one day he grew a pair of wings! He had imagined many things, but never growing a pair of wings. They were amazing! They were extraordinary! But Norman wasn’t sure he wanted his parents to see them yet.
Trying to hide who he really was only made him feel less and less normal. He began to wish he’d never grown the wings in the first place. Would Norman find the courage to show the world who he really was, or would he continue living a miserable existence?
Tom Percival’s clever use of a limited colour palette throughout most of the story provides us with extra insight into Norman’s emotions when he unfurls his wings and soars through the skies, releasing a rainbow of colours.
A truly wonderful and uplifting story about being brave enough to be the real you, even if that doesn’t appear to be the same as everyone else.
