#TheReadingQuest TBR

Hey Everybody!

Welcome to my third blog post where I’ll be sharing my plans for #TheReadingQuest. This even is being held from this Sunday August 13th-September 10th. This readathon was created by and is being hosted by Aentee @ Read At Midnight and I’ll leave a link to her post for any questions on the event.

This is the most unique readathon I’ve ever seen, because you get to play as a character. I believe that this is inspired by role play and video games. You can choose one of four characters: The Knight, The Mage, The Bard, or The Rouge. I had a really tough time choosing a character but I eventually deciding on The Mage. Once you pick a character you follow their path on the Quest Board. For more instructions on this read the original post. There are also side quests you can complete.

Another cool thing about this read-a-thon is that you play for points and there are prizes. I’m going to be doing a very very very relaxed version of this quest, so I probably won’t be counting score. Again, if you want instructions on how to calculate points there’s a link to the creator’s post.

Here is my TBR for The Mage!

Challenge #1: Read the first book of a series. Book: Daughter of the Pirate King by Tricia Levenseller

This book sounds incredible and is being pitched as female Jack Sparrow. I am not sure how long this series is going to be, but book 2 Daughter of the Siren Queen is coming out in February 2018. Which means that I need to read this book now, before the next book hits shelves. I’m not gonna lie there are two particular reasons why I picked this book up. Number one being all the comparisons to Pirates of the Caribbean. With the new fifth pirates movie Dead Man Tell No Tales being in theaters  few months ago I fell in love again. I rewatched the first three movies and realized they’re some of my favorite movies of all time. The second reason being I want to have pirates in the fantasy novel I’m writing and I need more knowledge. I’ve been dying for a pirate read and can’t wait to start this book!

Challenge #2: Read a book set in a different world. Book: The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman

This book will be a reread for me. I decided to reread the entire His Dark Materials trilogy, because a new book is being released in October called The Book of Dust. The Golden Compass takes place in one of the coolest fantasy world’s I’ve ever read. People’s souls are out of their bodies and walk beside them in animal form. Who doesn’t want to read a book with a talking ice bear? Growing up I wanted to be just like the protagonist Lyra. I used to go around saying I dunno just like her. I cannot wait to jump back into this world with gypsies, witches and of course the alithiometer.

Challenge #3: Read a book based on Mythology Book: Furies of Calderon by Jim Butcher

I had a hard time finding a book for this challenge. This book is a bit of stretch, it’s pitched as a combination of pokemon and Roman legions. Due to it’s connection to Rome I’m counting it even if it’s not exactly mythology. This is an adult high fantasy novel. I’ve been wanting to read more adult fantasy after falling in love with V.E. Schwab’s Vicious and Shades of Magic trilogy. I really don’t know much about it other than the magic system resembles pokemon. It’s a brick of a book and I’m excited to jump in.

Challenge #4: Read a book that contains magic. Book: The Subtle Knife by Philip Pullman

As I said before, I’m rereading the entire His Dark Materials trilogy in anticipation of the new book. This is the second book in the trilogy and knocks off this challenge. The subtle knife is one magical knife and this book picks up right where the first left off. This book delves so much more into characters we already know as well as new ones. We meet Will in this book, who was one of my first ever book crushes. When I read this book back when I was eleven I remember being confused. Hopefully, I’ll get a better understanding this time.

Challenge #5: Read a book with a one word title Book: Perelandra by C.S. Lewis

You’re probably familiar with this author, because C.S. Lewis wrote The Chronicles of Narnia. The Chronicles of Narnia was the series that got my into reading as a kid. To this day C.S. Lewis is one of my favorite authors and I love his writing style. I have such a writer crush on him. I’ve written multiple papers on him, but upon doing that this past semester I realized I’ve only read The Chronicles of Narnia. I hadn’t read any of his other works and I needed to change that. I decided to start with his Space Trilogy. I read the first book Out of the Silent Planet in June and really enjoyed it. I really want to continue on and this is the perfect opportunity.

So those are the books I’m planning on reading for #TheReadingQuest. Please check out the creater/host Read at Midnight also check out the artist of the characters Readthinkponder .

Ler me know if you’re participating! I’m still really new to blogging so if you’d like to leave the name or link to some good blogs or your own I will check it out.

You can definitely expect a wrap up of how well this TBR turned out on September 10.

See ya next time!
