I am back on the red carpet for the 2018 Golden Globe Awards after a quick break to start my Critics Choice Awards wishes. The red carpet this year is one I am interested in seeing what will come about. We will see a lot of black gowns as the stars stand in solidarity with the #MeToo movement. The black gown protest was started by Meryl Streep and several other stars have already committed to joining. I had already picked (and fallen in love) with the gowns I wanted for the nominees to wear on the red carpet, but for the presenters I have picked wall to wall black dresses. When I went through the collections to pick gowns I saw so many moments that could show me that a sea of black gowns don’t have to be boring. As a face of Louis Vuitton I am expecting Alicia Vikander to join fellow faces Michelle Williams and Emma Stone wearing custom black LV gowns on the red carpet. Alicia is one of the very few faces of LV that has had a consistent record of best dressed moments in the brand. I honestly couldn’t find a look from LV that I wanted Alicia to have turned into a gown for this red carpet, so I shunned the brand. I think that Alicia would definitely look chic wearing this black Brandon Maxwell Spring 2018 RTW column gown which features a plunging neckline and a center split. This is definitely one of the simpler gowns that I picked for this red carpet, but with the right accessories I know that it could still be a standout moment. A black Louis Vuitton ‘Petite Malle’ clutch, sleek hair, kohl rimmed eyes, black Louis Vuitton sandals with a silver tube heel, a red lip, and a statement Bulgari High Jewelry pearl, diamond, emerald, and sapphire necklace all would ensure that Alicia represents both Louis Vuitton and Bulgari in her Golden Globe Awards ensemble.Amy Poehler would definitely already be one of the ladies who would wear black on this red carpet, so this gown isn’t as surprising as some of the others in these wishes. Amy has never been one that I would look to for a major best dressed moment, but always shows up for an event like this wearing something pretty. I would love to see Amy turn to the brand that she has had the most success with on this red carpet, Stella McCartney. I would love to see Amy wearing this Stella McCartney sweetheart neck, halter, velvet evening gown. This gown screams glamour and I think that it would make for a beautiful moment on the red carpet. A loose romantic updo, defined eyes, red lips, black Jimmy Choo ‘Betty’ crystal embellished sandals, and a pair of Forevermark diamond winged earrings all would ensure that Amy is absolutely beautiful. I was surprised when the Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced that Gal Gadot was going to be one of the presenters at this years Golden Globe Awards. She was one of the biggest snubs in the acting category for her performance in Wonder Woman. The film was actually completely shut out this year. I think the best revenge would be if she showed up really delivering a major moment on the red carpet. It is without doubt that I would think that Gal will join in on the black gown protest, and I think that this strapless Stephane Rolland Spring 2015 Couture mermaid gown with a sequined upside down asymmetrical peplum on the hip would deliver just that moment. This is the dramatic black gown that I am really praying will be the norm this year. I think that the dramatic structure of this gown is all in the details. That will be the key to this years red carpet. Dazzling beading, sequins, feathers, capes, and so much more all would ensure that a carpet full of black gowns is anything but boring. Add a sleek updo, bold defined eyes, red lips, a pair of black Jimmy Choo ‘Lang’ patent leather strappy sandals, and antique Fred Leighton gold chandelier earrings to really make this gorgeous moment even more major for the Golden Globes red carpet.Kerry Washington is another one of the stars who I can almost guarantee will be on the red carpet at the Golden Globe Awards wearing black. Kerry has long been an activist for female empowerment and I just cannot see her wearing color on this red carpet. I do wonder if this Oscar de la Renta Resort 2018 gown which features an allover silver sequin bodice, a cascading leaf design, and a full length black column skirt would still fit the bill of the protest or not. I think that this gown would be a really chic moment for Kerry, and I personally think that this gown would totally fit that bill of the protest. Finish it off with a chic updo, smokey eyes, nude lips, a silver sequined Oscar de la Renta box clutch, silver Casadei layered heel sandals, and a pair of Harry Winston diamond wave pendant earrings to ensure it is perfectly styled. The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story premieres on Wednesday January 17, 2018 and so it doesn’t come as a surprise that the whole cast of the show will be presenters at this years Golden Globe Awards. Penelope Cruz has been giving me life as Donatella Versace in the promos for the show and I cannot wait to see what she will wear on this red carpet. For the last two years most of Penelope’s red carpet moments have been courtesy of Versace, but I wonder if she will be wearing much of it coming up since the show doesn’t seem to have the blessing of Donatella herself. I decide that this black Armani Prive Fall 2016 Couture strapless, tiered velvet ball gown which features a structured neckline, a crystal rope belt, and a crystal embellished crinoline would be the perfect look for Penelope to wear on this red carpet. She hasn’t worn a full gown on this red carpet before, opting mostly for column and mermaid silhouettes in the past. I think that on a red carpet where we are likely to see several black column gowns that this would be a nice change of pace. I would infuse some color into this look via some statement Chopard jewels including a diamond and emerald necklace, a statement emerald cocktail ring, and a pair of diamond stud earrings. A pair of black Christian Louboutin ‘Tres Frais’ satin ribbon sandals, sleek updo, smokey eye, and a red lip would ensure that this look is absolutely beautiful for the Globes red carpet. Sharon Stone is another who will most definitely be on the red carpet at the Golden Globe Awards wearing black. She was on hand to announce the nominations for this years awards, so I wasn’t surprised when they announced her as one of this years presenters. When Sharon steps onto the red carpet she tends to wear clothes that she pulls out of her own closet. I kept that in mind, but I thought that she would be the perfect person to make this Zuhair Murad Fall 2017 Couture feather trimmed velvet caped which features beaded embroidery, a sheer lace bodice, tapered tuxedo pants with a beaded stripe to life on the red carpet. I was hoping for the perfect person to bring this look to life on a red carpet, and then Sharon’s name showed up. I think that if anyone could make it really work for a major film awards red carpet it would be Sharon. I think that with a black bodysuit, edgy coif, smokey eye, red lips, a pair of black Tom Ford pointed toe leather pumps, and vintage Van Cleef & Arpels diamond cluster earrings that Sharon would just ooze edgy glamour.
The 2018 Golden Globe Awards will take place on Sunday January 7, 2018.
