3 of Our Favorite Books Set in Chicago

This weekend we are headed to Chicago with our family to celebrate our great Grandpa’s 100th birthday! Can you believe that? Our impending trip inspired us to think about what some of our favorite books are that are set in Chicago (or a version of it) and we were able to come up with a few. So, these are our favorite books that are set in one of our favorite cities, Chicago.

Divergent by Veronica Roth

Divergent, as many of you probably know, is a dystopian series set in a future version of Chicago in which the populace is spilt into five factions—Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On her 16th birthday main character Tris Prior must decide to stay with Abnegation and the family and life she has always known or choose a new faction that calls to a different part of her multifaceted personality.

The Time Traveler’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger

The Time Traveler’s Wife is a love story that transcends across time. It is the story of Clare, an artist, and Henry, a librarian with a unique ability to travel through time (though, rather unexpectedly). Together they attempt to build a normal life, but not without facing enormous obstacles and the unknown.

Tandem by Anna Jarzab

Sasha Lawson has lived an ordinary life with her grandfather in their Chicago home, but she has always enjoyed her grandfather’s stories of other worlds. However, her ordinary life is not ordinary everywhere and she is forced to travel to a parallel world where she isn’t simply a high school student, but a princess whose marriage could save a kingdom.

Tell us what books you guys have read that take place in the Windy City! Is the setting a part of the reason you liked them? Also, let us know if there are any other cities you would like to see us do this with. It was fun for us to try and think of books in a place that we love and we would love to do it with some other cities!
