CHALLENGE ACCEPTED!
I’m not sure if you are familiar with Crystal Paine’s book, 5 Days to a Better Morning Challenge. She offers this challenge so you can make the most of your mornings which results in a successful day. Now since having my baby, I have not settled into a great morning routine. And not being a morning person makes it difficult for me to be productive when I wake up. So with this in mind, I am taking the challenge.
For the next 5 days, I will plan and execute a morning routine that will hopefully make me more productive. This blog will be my own personal journal account of those 5 days (and hopefully it’ll only be 5 days). So here we go…
Day 1:
Decide that you’re going to participate in this challenge.
This is my declaration on this day, 5th of September 2017, that I will commit the next 5 days to a better morning routine.
Determine your answers to the three questions.
What is a realistic start time? I have an 18 month old baby who doesn’t wake up until 8 in the morning but she doesn’t go to sleep until 9:30 at night. Which generally means, I don’t get to bed until around midnight. So my realistic start time is a little before she wakes up. So I will set my start time at 7:30 AM. (NOTE: I hope I can do this because like I said, “I’m not a morning person.”)
When do you need to be out the door? My job allows me to be flexible with my hours, which is probably a reason why I don’t have a morning routine. But I would like to be ready for work, at home or at the office, by 9:45 AM. This allows time for me to get to the office by 10 AM for one job and 10:30 AM for the other job.
What are your Big Rocks? Now this is a question that needs some thought. If you read Crystal’s book, she gives her “big rocks” as working out and family time around the table. Well I’m not much for working out these days but I do want to start up again. So I’ll say working out is my first big rock for the day. The next thing to figure out is the workout plan. I’m not a big runner and the only exercise I’ve ever done is when it involved any kind of sport. But after searching, I did find an easy workout on Pinterest that might work. It’s called “The Best 10 Day Home Workout Plan.” In summary, the workout plan starts on a Monday and ends on a Friday with Saturday and Sunday as rest days. And this goes for 2 weeks, 5 days of exercises and 2 days of rest. (NOTE: I will be starting on the Wednesday so I can get the Saturday and Sunday rest days before entering a full week of exercises.) My next big rock will be a Bible study. I’ve been jumping around studies lately because each of them is six weeks long. So I will do what Crystal does which is #SHEREADSTRUTH study. And my final rock is my mental training exercises. I do 2 exercises to improve my short term memory. The first one is short term visual memory which I do about 10 times at the intermediate level. The second one is 20 random word generator where I try to remember 20 words in 1 minute and I do this for about 10 minutes.
Tell someone offline that you’re participating in this challenge.
So this is more for accountability. Having someone that knows what you’re doing holds you accountable to actually doing it. So I’ve told my husband that I am trying to get a better morning routine. And writing my progress in this blog will also help keep me accountable to my commitment.
So there it is. Tomorrow, hopefully I’ll have a better idea of a schedule that works.
